Moon light surf with head torch - Nov 22nd 2015

This moonlight surf session was filmed back in November 2015, we had been waiting a while to get a full moon and clear skies, and some clean waves to make it worthwhile. The water was still mild after the Summer, and the air was cold so the sea was steaming.

Martin Connolly and Harry Bennett are taking in turns with the Lupine 1500 lumen head torch (mounted on a helmet), and the other filming with a Nikon 1 AW1.

The tricky part is spotting the waves and taking off, you have to rely on your surfing instincts; something that we cover in 110% Surfing Techniques Volume 4 (currently editing).

This is Harry with the head torch, and Martin has taken a pic (with flash) with the Nikon 1 AW 1.

Another still from the Nikon.

We had the head torch mounted quite high up to give the light more elevation to the light would reach further, trying to make it easier to spot waves, but it didn't make too much difference. So we now mount the light low down again so it doesn't clip the lip.

This is a frame grab from the video.
